Marcellus Shale:

The Marcellus Shale runs through Pennsylvania, West Virginia, New York and Ohio. The gas-producing rock is as large as 900 ft and runs 600 miles from North to South. One of the richest fields in North America, the Marcellus Shale is thought to hold up to 500 trillion cubic feet (TCF) of natural gas. With the current production rate likely to increase due to the development of new fracking technology and horizontal drilling, environmental and safety issues are being carefully studied—and hotly debated. Pennsylvania, New York and West Virginia are working to establish regulatory programs and reporting limits associated with the Marcellus drilling process.

Pace Analytical has partnered with numerous Marcellus Shale clients, including exploration firms, gas drillers-producers, engineering consulting firms and regulatory agencies in the area of analytical support. Our Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania laboratory provides the lab capacity to fully serve the Marcellus Shale industry—both by location and by the breadth of available services. Plus, statewide courier services are available upon request.

Pace currently provides testing to all phases of the Marcellus drilling process. Our expertise in the Marcellus Shale market includes the analysis of:

  • Water: wastewater, groundwater, surface water, frac water and drinking water
  • Solids: soil, sludges and sediments
  • Waste: hazardous, non-hazardous and industrial
  • Radiochemistry
