The EPA has included Perchlorate in the Unregulated Contaminant Monitoring Rule (UCMR) and on the Contaminant Candidate List (CCL). Perchlorate is an inorganic ion that is highly soluble and very mobile in surface and groundwater systems. This contaminant has been found in more than 350 water sources in 22 different states. Perchlorate is a concern for public health, it creates dysfunction in the Thyroid Gland by interfering with uptake of Iodine and therefore suppressing the production of hormones, which help regulate metabolism in the human body.
Ammonium Perchlorate is the major ingredient in rocket fuel, fireworks, missiles and solid propellants. Perchlorate salts are used in the manufacturing of airbag inflators, fertilizer, leather finishing and rubber manufacturing.
Pace Analytical Services offers technical expertise in monitoring Perchlorates with the option of two methods, one utilizing Ion Chromatography and the other a low level analysis by Liquid Chromatography Mass Spectroscopy. We provide testing services for water, soil, biota, food products and surface contamination wipe samples.
